DARK ROOM RETREATS WITH EOSTAR KAMALA AND DALE NIGGEMANN

Dark Room Retreats with Eostar Kamala and Dale Niggemann is committed to create sacred spaces for deep inner transformation through darkness retreats, hypnotherapy, sound journeys, breathwork and integrative healing practices. Rooted in direct experience, we honor the intelligence of silence, the power of the subconscious, and the wisdom that emerges when external distractions fall away. Our mission is to guide individuals into profound self-connection, emotional clarity, and spiritual alignment, supporting lasting change that extends into everyday life. Through carefully held containers, we invite participants to awaken inner guidance, open up the inner eye and spark the body’s innate capacity to heal.   We bring years of experience in hypnotherapy and retreat facilitation to ensure safety, depth, and transformation.

Participants can choose between 3 different lenghts of retreats.

The 10 Day (8 Nights / 7 Days in the Dark) Retreat is an invitation into profound inner stillness through extended time in complete darkness. The chosen duration is defined in advance to support a safe, intentional, and well-held small group retreat.

For those newer to dark retreat work, shorter immersion options are also available: a 6 Day Retreat (4 Nights / 3 Days in the Dark) and a 5 Day Retreat (3 Nights / 2 Days in the Dark). These shorter formats are especially recommended for beginners or for those wishing to gently acclimate to the dark retreat experience before committing to a longer immersion.

Each participant is provided with their own private, separate dark room, allowing for a deeply personal and uninterrupted inner journey.

Removed from external stimulation, this retreat also functions as a form of dopamine reset—a conscious stepping away from constant input, technology, and sensory overload—allowing the nervous system to recalibrate and return to a more natural state of balance. In this space, participants are guided into deep introspection, where the mind can settle, deeper layers of awareness emerge, and visionary states become possible.

Held by two experienced facilitators, the retreat offers a structured and supportive environment for this powerful inner journey.

Each day is gently supported with grounding practices designed to balance depth with care. Participants are offered optional group yoga, breathwork, and guided meditation sessions to support the body, release tension, and maintain energetic flow. These sessions take place in the shared communal living room—which is also maintained in complete darkness—so participants remain fully immersed in the dark throughout the experience.

There is no conversation or social interaction during the retreat, preserving the integrity of the inward journey. The only communication offered is through private, one-on-one consultations with the facilitators, available at any time (24/7), providing personalized support for emotional, psychological, and spiritual processing as needed. This balance of immersion and support allows participants to explore their inner landscape while remaining resourced and held.

Nourishment is an essential part of the experience, with two to three organic meals provided daily to sustain the body in a gentle and mindful way. The retreat is designed as a complete container for transformation—honoring preparation, presence, and integration. Whether seeking clarity, healing, or a deeper connection to Self, this experience offers a rare opportunity to step out of the external world and into the richness of inner awareness.

Retreat Length & Schedule

The primary retreat format is 10 days long, with 8 Nights / 7 Days in the dark. There will be 2 Zoom Preparation Meetings before the event (included in the price of the retreat). Shorter 6 Day and 5 Day retreat options follow a similar structure, with adjusted immersion and integration periods.

Participants enter the dark room on the day of their arrival (Day 1), after dinner. There will be time for getting familiar with the surroundings, meet and greet, and Q&A.

Participants remain in darkness for 8 nights / 7 days (Day 2 – Day 8), allowing for a profound unfolding of psychological, emotional, and possibly visionary processes. They will be guided out into the light on the morning of Day 8 (or on Day 3 or Day 4 respectively) .

This is followed by one full day of integration in the light on Day 8 (or on Day 3 or Day 4 respectively), providing essential support as participants begin to reorient to external reality and process the depth of their experience.

Integration is not an optional add-on—it is a vital and non-negotiable part of the retreat container. Time spent in darkness can open powerful inner experiences, insights, and shifts in perception. Without proper integration, these experiences may remain ungrounded or difficult to embody.

The dedicated integration day is designed to help participants gently transition out of darkness, process what has emerged, and begin anchoring insights into a form that can be meaningfully carried into daily life. For this reason, all participants are encouraged to remain for the full integration period and spend an extra night. This phase is where the retreat experience becomes truly transformative—not only through what is discovered in darkness, but through how it is understood, integrated, and lived afterward.

Retreat Length & Integration Options

This retreat is offered in three distinct formats to support different levels of readiness and depth of immersion, while maintaining a strong emphasis on integration as an essential part of the experience.

The first option is a 3 Night/ 2 Day darkroom retreat, designed as a shorter yet powerful entry into the practice of sensory withdrawal.  Participants spend three nights in complete darkness, followed by one full day of integration in the light at the retreat center. This option allows for meaningful inner exploration while offering a gentle transition back into daily awareness through guided integration.

The second option is a 4 Night/ 3 Day darkroom retreat designed as a medium length experience.  Participants spend four nights in complete darkness, followed by one full day of integration in the light at the retreat center. This option allows for meaningful inner exploration while offering a gentle transition back into daily awareness through guided integration.

The second option is a 8 Night/ 7 Day darkroom retreat, intended for those who feel called to a deeper and more extended journey inward. Participants remain in darkness for seven nights, allowing for a more profound unfolding of psychological, emotional, and visionary processes. This is followed by one full day of integration in the light, providing essential support as participants begin to reorient to external reality and process the depth of their experience.

A message from Eostar:

I truly feel such a deep respect for anyone who chooses to enter a dark-room retreat. It takes courage, curiosity, and a genuine willingness to meet yourself beyond the usual distractions of everyday life.  The fact that you are here, reading this says a lot about your level of commitment when it comes to awakening and healing.

I facilitate this work together with my friend Dale Niggemann, and for me this path has been unfolding for many years. My journey began early through significant health challenges that led me inward—first in search of healing, and eventually in search of something deeper: truth, meaning, transformation and spiritual awakening.

Over time, I trained in yoga, breathwork, and a range of trauma-informed modalities, including Birth Into Being, Theta Healing, Recall Healing, Self-Love practices, and Internal Family Systems. I also hold a certification as a Clinical Hypnotherapist. Yet more than any formal training, it is lived experience—years of meditation, spiritual exploration, and supporting others in deep inner processes—that has shaped the way I hold this space.

In everyday life, our attention is constantly drawn outward—toward light, sound, stimulation, and interaction. Even when we attempt to slow down, subtle distractions remain. In complete darkness, something shifts. Without visual input, the external world begins to fade, and the inner world becomes more vivid.

Within this environment, people often experience a natural detachment from familiar patterns of perception. Identities, roles, and internal narratives can begin to soften, making space for something deeper to emerge. For many, this becomes not only a psychological process, but also a spiritual one.

There are also theories about the physiological effects of extended darkness, including possible shifts in neurochemistry that may contribute to visionary or dream-like states. While scientific understanding is still evolving, what matters most is not how the experience is explained, but how it is met.

For the past 10 years, I have worked in the field of plant medicine facilitation, supporting people through a wide range of inner experiences—from deeply challenging to profoundly expansive. This work has taught me the importance of presence: how to hold space without controlling, how to support without imposing, and how to trust the intelligence of each individual’s process.

The same approach applies here. In the dark room, whatever arises is welcome—memories, emotions, stillness, confusion, or clarity. The intention is not to achieve a particular state, but to meet yourself honestly and with compassion.

Throughout the retreat, I offer private consultations as well as supportive practices such as yoga, breathwork, and meditation adapted to the dark environment. These practices are not meant to distract from the experience, but to support it—helping to regulate the nervous system, release tension, and deepen connection to what is unfolding within.

This retreat is not about escaping the world. It is about seeing more clearly—both within and beyond it. In the absence of external stimulation, there is an opportunity to reconnect with something deeper than identity and conditioning—what some may call awareness, consciousness, or the Self.

At the same time, this work is approached with gentleness. There is no need to force breakthroughs or push beyond your limits. Often, the most meaningful shifts happen quietly, through allowing rather than striving. If something difficult arises, it is not a sign that something is wrong—it is often something ready to be seen, felt, and integrated.

You are not alone in that process. Dale and I are here to support the space in which your experience unfolds, offering guidance when needed while honoring your own inner intelligence.

This retreat is an invitation to slow down, turn inward, and reconnect with what is essential. The qualities that tend to support this journey are simple: curiosity, compassion, and trust—not blind trust, but a willingness to remain open to your own experience, even in the unknown.

Ultimately, the depth of this work is not only in what is experienced in darkness, but in how it is integrated and lived afterward.
